Hello everyone and welcome back to another blog post on ~Foodie with a Passion~! I am so glad you’re here to join me today because I’m pretty sure the word coffee ☕️ perked you up. I hope everyone is having a relatively good week so far and had a good weekend. Mine was pretty busy that I think I’ll be catching up on sleep for the rest of the week. Now, I’ve done a few of my “What I Order at…” posts and I feel like I haven’t done one for coffee shops like good ole Starbucks (yup, we’re in Washington state so there’s one on almost every corner if I exaggerate). But before we get started, make sure to click that subscribe button so you don’t miss another Foodie Fun 🤩
Alrighty! So, there are LOTS of coffee shops out there, chains like Starbucks and Tully’s in Seattle, Dunkin’ Donuts on the East Coast, Peet’s in San Francisco, etc. as well as mom and pop coffee shops, espresso stands. And unless it’s Starbucks extensive menu, most coffee shops will have your basic drip, espresso menus and non-coffee drinks. Some may have food like pastries and breakfast items. So, today I’m sharing what I like to order at coffee shops because I definitely have my go-to’s.
If I am just ordering coffee as a pick-me-up in the afternoon, my order is simple: an americano or medium roast drip coffee with half and half unless I know I’m going out for coffee, then I bring a little container of soy milk to mix.
I’m somewhat lactose intolerant as mentioned in some posts but half and half doesn’t seem to bother me much because I use so little in my coffee. Just enough to not taste the bitterness from coffee by itself. Trader Joe’s used to have my soy creamer but I haven’t seen it in a while so I am currently putting Silk Soy Milk Original in my coffee.
So speaking of soy milk, if I am treating myself to coffee and know I will give insulin for it, I splurge for a what my husband calls a “Froo-froo drink” aka a soy latte. I went to Dutch Bros on Monday morning (an Oregon coffee chain that had been expanding to Washington) after my doctors appointment for my latte. That was my morning coffee and breakfast so I made sure the carbs were accounted for.

In the summer of course, my drinks are iced drinks so iced americano and iced soy lattes. Honorable mentions include the Soy Latte Macchiato from Starbucks and I remember having some sort of iced coffee drink (no sugars, just half and half) at Dunkin’s when we were on vacation last year. When I was really into Frappuccino’s from Starbucks, I always liked the seasonal ones like the S’mores frapps.
If coffee shops have food, I do avoid pastries due to possible cross contamination with tree nuts so I like to get breakfast burritos or breakfast sandwiches for food. Sometimes I still get a croissant once in a while but I really want to learn how to make them in the future.
And there you have it! What I order at coffee shops. What is your favorite coffee order? Let me know in the comments below and until then… signing off!
